Blue Flower

I have reached a very exciting stage in the project I have been working on for two and a half years. After 12 months of build I finally have a rig I can start promoting.

My rig is purpose built for the Australian CSG industry, but may also have applications in doing cheaper top hole section drilling on oil and shale projects in Australia. She is design for rapid mobilization with minimal environmental impact. It also incorporates all safety features expected in modern drilling rigs, such as enclosed driller cabins and hands free drilling operations. How ever the rig is still a simple, robust design, where I have intentionally avoided the use of computer or PLC control systems to keep maintenance costs to a minimum.

CMD220 Unconventional Gas Drilling Rig.

·         100 Metric Tonne (220,400 lbs.) Pull Back
·         Telescoping Hydraulic Mast
·         24,750 Nm (18,255 ft/lbs.) Torque
·         Range III Tubulars

The CMD220 is a competitively priced, custom designed rig that has been built for the Australian market. This rig has been designed from the ground up to exceed international standards and comply with Australian requirements and legislation.

The CMD220 project is a Joint Venture between Cortech Drilling Equipment Co. (China) and GasDrill International (Singapore). Technical and service and support will be provided by Oztec Manufacturing of Toowoomba, Queensland (Australia).

Australian compliance engineers have been thoroughly involved to ensure that the CMD220 meets ADR requirements at every stage , from design all of the way  through the factory build, and including the  commissioning.

Independant test labs have commissioned for the build period to ensure the quality control and certification of all welds and lifting equipment.

Moduspec are assisting with the build schedule and have planned factory visits for crucial stages of the build to ensure the rig will pass their auditing system.

The factory has applied to the American Petroleum Institute (API) and is currently being audited for API Monogram and Specification 4F certification. We expect to have Certification the end of 2014.

Australian Engineers from RYCO Hydraulics have assisted in the design of the hydraulic system and have carried out audits to ensure that RYCO hoses and fittings are installed to comply with the Australian Mining Standards MDG-41 and MDG-15.

The CMD220 comes as an easily transportable trailer mounted package. Great care was taken in the design stage to ensure that the rig is compliant to travel on Australian roads without the need for escort vehicles. The rig will be permitted to move on Australian Roads on a one off “Period Permit” lasting up to six months.

The CMD220 is of a simple design compared to other rigs of comparable size.  The CMD220 is fitted with a pivoting Top Drive and tubular handling equipment built into the BOP Sub Base Structure.
The unit is self-erecting to a work height of 3.5m without the need of auxiliary Pony Bases.
The CMD220 is ideally suited for shallow gas, surface hole, CBM, directional and large diameter drilling applications with mud or air.

We are aiming to have the first rig landed in Toowoomba by the end of 2014.
